[Insight] TrendForce: AI Expansion and PUE Supervision Propel Global Data Center Lighting Market to USD 2.16 Billion in 2026

Fueled by the dual momentum of generative AI (Gen AI) and global digital transformation, massive computing demand has transformed how data centers are deployed, operated, and maintained. Hyperscale data centers, in particular, have become a prominent driver of related investment and construction. TrendForce noted that lighting systems previously accounted for less than 2% of the total costs of data center construction, but they are now under pressure from stringent regulatory policies on power usage effectiveness (PUE) and a shift to zero emissions. For example, new data centers are required to achieve a PUE below 1.3 or 1.4. Data center lighting has now been elevated from a negligible deliverable to an integral part of green, low-carbon initiatives.

Bolstered by AI expansion and increased LED lighting penetration, the data center lighting market is injected with strong momentum for growth. According to TrendForce’s latest data, the global data center LED lighting market was valued at USD 1.97 billion in 2025 and is forecast to expand to USD 2.16 billion in 2026, with a YoY increase of 9%. Sustained growth is expected to propel the market to USD 3.69 billion by 2030, with a CAGR of 13% between 2025 and 2030.

Regionally, North America benefits from the existing strong demand for replacements and system upgrades, firmly securing its global dominance. On the other hand, the Asia-Pacific region, driven by policy guidance and digital economy investments in China, India, and Southeast Asia, has experienced a new peak in construction and become the most compelling growth segment.

Critical infrastructure in data centers demands continuous 24/7 operation, imposing far more demanding requirements of luminaire reliability than ordinary commercial solutions. To meet the demand for extreme energy efficiency, mainstream LED luminaires have commonly improved efficacy to 160 lm/W and above, effectively alleviating pressure on cooling systems by reducing heat load. Meanwhile, these products are required to deliver a long service life exceeding 100,000 hours while operating with 4000K-5000K cool white light sources and superior color rendering to ensure cable visibility. Moreover, with the more widespread adoption of “unmanned data centers,” smart luminaires with IR- or microwave-sensing dimming features have become a new standard, accelerating the market penetration of on-demand lighting.

Given the tremendous market opportunities, the global data center lighting industry has developed a multi-tiered competitive landscape. For instance, Signify leverages its Cooper Lighting business unit and Interact IoT platform to offer full-lifecycle services spanning LiFi wireless technology and tailored designs, consolidating the market positioning of its premium ecosystem. Similarly, Acuity Brands, based on its effective smart edge strategy, integrates lighting deeply into Building Management System (BMS), successfully staking its claim in the North American market. Zumtobel, centered on its TECTON continuous-row trunking system, highlights highly modularized designs, tool-free installation, and extraordinary lighting quality, attracting attention from advanced colocation facilities and brand-focused data centers. LEDVANCE takes a different approach and offers general-purpose solutions with a focus on standardized linear light strips. PacLights specializes in high-ROI retrofit projects in the existing market, meeting the demand for low-cost maintenance with magnetic retrofit kits and flexible dimming designs.

TrendForce maintains that data center lighting systems have become integrated into the overall architecture of infrastructure facilities. Moving forward, leading market players with cross-system integration capabilities and Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) certification are set to augment their influence in the high-end market. Suppliers who specialize in existing and versatile retrofit projects will also engage in the market on a strong footing, underpinning a clearer picture of tiered market segmentation ahead.
