According to Bo Jiansheng, general manager of Philips Taiwan lighting, the market scale of the Taiwan street light market that is being converted to LED lighting applications is expected to exceed NT$1 billion (US$32.46 million), and the company has already gained some installation contracts from local governments in Taipei, Taichung and Kaohsiung, according to a Chinese-language Economic Daily News (EDN) report.
According to a company press release, Philips has bee touting its CosmoPolis street lighting system that has been installed in many cities in Europe and Asia since its introduction in 2005 and cuts energy consumption by 50%.
The company recently noted that its green lighting sales increased 17% in 2007, with the biggest increase being in the home lighting market followed closely by lighting solutions for retail outlets and street lighting.
