Taiwan ITRI Builds Partnership to Apply LED in Old Economy Industries

Taiwan state-financed Industrial Technology Research Institute (ITRI) has set up a partnership Tuesday among local companies to use LED technology to improve the quality and quantity of local agricultural and livestock products.

According to the ITRI, it expected to draw participation of over 70 LED companies and the farming sector to help nurture technology application capabilities in old economy industries.

Chan Yi-jen, general director of the institute's Electronics and Optoelectronic Research Laboratories, at a press conference, thought that the LED technology could help improve some agricultural applications, such as the control of lighting that would have a positive impact on animals and plants.

The partnership is also expected to lead to the integration of industry and government resources, increasing the competitiveness of Taiwan's farming, fishing and livestock industries with advanced LED technologies.
