Copenhagen Leads the Way in Becoming Green City

Danish city Copenhagen is leading the global front on becoming a green city, according to a report by The New York Times.

On the main road, drivers can view on their smartphones when the light will change, and in a nearby suburb LED streetlights will only light up when vehicles approach, dimming once they pass.

The city’s growing network of wireless streetlights and sensors are expected to help the city of a population of 1.2 million meet its goal of becoming the world’s first carbon-neutral capital by 2025.

Globally, cities are expected to replace nearly 50 million old light sources with LEDs over a period of three years, with roughly half of those in Europe.
