Hot Picks of the Week Oct. 19-23

Highlights this week:

There has been a lot of LED streetlight upgrade projects rolled out in the North America market this week, most are concentrated in the U.S. market, with only one lighting case in the Canadian market. Unlike most countries where governments fund the streetlighting project, energy utilities company Xcel Energy is financing large scale streetlight conversion projects in Minnesota and Wisconsin.

Philippines environmental group The EcoWaste Coalition has found counterfeit LED lights and mislabeled products in the local market, and is urging the government to implement necessary standards.

Cree financial performance better than expected in 3Q15 (or fiscal year of 1Q16 for the U.S. company), but still posted net loss. However, the company expects things to turn around in the next quarter.

In a case of misreporting, Everlight is considering to take legal action against Taiwanese media DIGITIMES for presenting employee vacation benefits as imposing on its employees one week unpaid leave in November. For more please see below.
