Highlights this week:

  • An investment consortium comprising of CVC, KKR and Bain has shown interest in acquiring Philips Lighting for $ 6 billion, according to a Bloomberg report. Some of the bidders have shown interest in absorbing Lumileds as well, if the deal with Go Scale Capital fails.
  • Other important business developments this week, OLEDWorks announced it has finished acquiring key parts of Philips OLED component business, while previously struggling sapphire maker GTAT has finally reached an agreement with Apple to settle itsUS $439 million loan.
  • For every man that dreamed of becoming James Bond and launching a career in espionage, it might not be as easy as thought. A commercial spy group comprising mostly of Win Semiconductor engineers were caught by Taiwanese authorities from stealing sensitive trade secrets. The group led by a Taiwanese engineer working for a Chinese semiconductor company was very close to smuggling Win Semiconductor’s guarded secrets back to his employer. For more please see below:
