Highlights this week:

  • Osram is definitely showcasing how it is exploring more profitable niche markets, such as the launch of green LEDs for heart rate monitoring in wearable devices. LEDinside thinks Osram might have been Apple Watch’s green LED supplier, due to the many similarities in the product features.
  • A lot of smart lighting products have been showcased or released at LightFair International 2015 this year. GE has become the latest lighting giant to join the colorful smart LED bulb movement and partner up with Apple Homekit, while Samsung is developing its own open platform smart lighting system. Cree has also announced its partnership with Belkin’s WeMo to bring smart lighting to the market.
  • Acuity Brand has launched indoor lighting position products for retail applications following its merge with ByteLight.
  • Epistar completes merge with TSMC SSL, following the merge TSMC SSL will no longer operate as an independent subsidiary. The Taiwanese giant LED chip maker and Edison Opto is also believed to have acquired a large residential lighting project from the Indian government recently. For more please see below:
