Hot Picks of the Week Jan. 4-8

Highlights this week:

A lot of new products and electronic gadgets have been released on the market following the start of CES 2016. One of the interesting trends observed from the latest product releases has been the growing usage of OLED backlight products in laptops and displays, LG Display, Samsung, and Dell have been a couple to release OLED-screen devices.

As for developments in the LED industry this week, LEDinside has found the original German media source that sparked the rumor that Siemens was considering to sell its stake in Osram last week. Based on the magazine report, Siemens does not clearly state its intent to sell its stake in Osram, but has expressed it has been fairly dissatisfied with its former lighting subsidiary’s recent policy decisions. Another news related to Osram has been Shanghai Felio Acoustics sudden decision to end its financial consultant contract with HSBC in its bid to acquire Osram’s lighting business. Might this signal Shanghai Felio Acoustics is exiting the race to bid for Osram’s lighting business? We’re not sure yet.

We also see more interesting developments in the niche lighting market this week. Philips and Colorado State University have sealed a LED grow light research partnership deal, while Acuity Brands is venturing into smart lighting product sector following its acquisition of software service company GeoMetri. Taiwan’s research institute ITRI has also formed its second joint fund with Mitsubishi UFJ Financial Group to finance laser technology developments in the country. SETi has started delivering standard and customized UV LED solutions to China to help preserve fresh produces for longer periods. For more please see below:
