Unity Opto will set up new factory in Beijing

Taiwan-based LED-packaging house Unity Opto Technology will invest US$9 million for establishing a subsidiary in Beijing, which was planed to produce medium- to large-sized LED backlight units and LED lighting products,uniting with Taiwan-based LED backlight unit maker Forward Electronics and LED chip maker Formosa Epitaxy.

The new factory will start building in the end of 2010. Unity Opto、Forward and Formosa Epitaxy will take charge of stake ratios of 50%, 40% and 10% respectively. Formosa Epitaxy will supply LED chip for the new company and Unity Opto will be responsible for packaging. While Forward use the product for the panel or other areas、selling and so on.

Besides, Unity Opto invested US$1.5 million to set up a joint-venture maker of LED light bars in Wujiang, eastern China.
