Jamaica to Replace 200 Streetlights in Kingston with LEDs

According to a report by government-owned Jamaica Information Services the country’s public service agency will be replacing 200 High Pressure Sodium (HPS) streetlights with LEDs.

  • JPS is partnering with the Caribbean Maritime Institute (CMI), to replace 200 streetlights along the Palisadoes Road in Kingston with light emitting diode (LED) technology.
  • The JMD 5.17 million (US $45,900) project, which will involve retrofitting the existing High Pressure Sodium (HPS) lamps, is the first phase of an energy efficiency programme being undertaken in the area

  • It follows the successful completion of a pilot, which resulted in the installation of 30 retrofitted LED streetlights along the Palisadoes roadway.
