Rohm developed a new (2nd-generation) OLED lighting panel that uses a red phosphorescent material. The new material results in a more efficient device - about 25-30lm/W, up from about 11lm/W in their first-generation all-fluorescent device.   Lumiotec (which is partly owned by Rohm) will start producing these new panels in "volume" within a few days (Lumiotec reported earlier that it will make around 60,000 panels a year). Taiwan LED packaging manufacturer VisEra Technologies is reported to put its manufacturing emphasis on high-power packages dedicated to light bulbs in 2011.  At present, the company produces 2,000 200mm wafers of packages a month, roughly equal to four million packages. Japan Seiko Instruments Inc. (SII) has introduced the S-5855A Series, a PWM output temperature sensor IC for LED lighting designs. It’s said that city of Novato is in the process of conducting a streetlight test to get public feedback in its selection of energy-efficient fixtures. Four LED fixtures have been installed between Rowland Boulevard and Adele Drive, and four induction fixtures were installed between Arthur Drive and Yukon Way. All lights being considered would reduce monthly energy costs by about 40 percent and reduce routine maintenance costs three to four times that of the current fixtures.

The LDS8763 is delivered with factory programmed LED current at 20, 25, or 30 mA per string and 1.5% channel-to-channel current matching. Internal PWM pulse generator with duty cycle regulated by external DC voltage applied to the PWM pin adjusts its LED brightness.

The Buffalo Bisons are going to install the largest high definition LED video screen in all of minor league baseball. Made by Daktronics, Inc., the new video board will measure 80’ x 33’ and will come with a price tag of $2.5 million. It will be completed before the start of the 2011 season. The new green lighting system will cost about $750,00- upfront. It's estimated that the new lights will save the city about $565,000 in utility costs over the next 25 years.

It’s reported that "Megatex", a Bulgarian LED and LCD technologies company has developed a screen combining LED technology with renewable solar energy, which can be mounted at places without electric power supply. The panel has a 5 KW power to charge the screen. The new screen will be used outdoors and can be installed on stadiums; it can be used for concerts or as a billboard.

Lately, Samsung Electronics has showcased a new model of its edge-type LED-backlit LCD panel at CES Unveiled, a press conference prior to the 2011 International CES. According to a Samsung staffer, different with the case where LED backlight units are set on all the four sides ,they placed backlight units on the right and left sides of the panel so that the power consumption of the panel can be reduced.  

A power control IC company iWatt, Inc., has launched two primary-side-regulated, leading- and trailing-edge-dimmable, AC/DC Digital PWM Controllers which are available in 100V/230VAC offline LED lighting applications. Both LED driver ICs are pin compatible with the previous-generation iW3610, but offer wider dimmer compatibility and introduce new hot-plug support, where the user can swap the LED engine without recycling the input power for the LED driver.
