Samsung's latest foray into the world of projectors has yielded a gem that measures a mere 147.5mm x 66.3mm x 145.5mm. Known as the SP-P140, this ultra compact LED projector from Samsung is able to support resolutions of up to SXGA (1,280 x 1,024). However, it can only display SVGA (800 x 600) resolution. Other features include a contrast ratio of 1,000:1 and a 170 ANSI Lumen brightness. The inclusion of a USB port is able to turn the SP-P410 into an impromptu portable media player as it supports a wide range of popular video and audio formats.

According to a market research company, sales of traditional light bulbs fell by up to 35 percent in the first quarter of 2009 in a number of European countries. In River Forest, IL, the U.S., the village board has approved a project studying the effectiveness of energy-efficient light-emitting diodes (LED) in outdoor streetlights. And the LED pilot project in the village, which encompasses just one streetlight near the corner of Central and Lathrop Avenues, could be expanded later this year.

Epson has recently rolled out the V500, its latest scanner designed for home and office use. As the promotion of the 2009 "Beijing City Green Light Project" draws to a close, Beijing’s public institutions will gradually realize the vision of “Green Lighting” in the city. A study on the life-cycle assessment (LCA) of LED lamps by OSRAM shows the latest generation of lamps achieves a very high score for environmental friendliness. This study involved a close look at their entire life-cycle – how much energy and raw materials the lamp consumes in terms of production, use and disposal and the environmental impact involved in the process. The result was that today’s LED lamps achieve the LCA values of compact fluorescent lights and are far superior to conventional incandescent lamps.

The roof of Melbourne’s new Rectangular Stadium would be covered with thousands of LED lights that can shine in any color and be programmed into a multitude of patterns, Tim Pallas, Major Projects Minister of Australia recently announced. The lighting scheme would put the AU$267.5 million Rectangular Stadium up there with Beijing’s water cube and the 2006 World Cup stadium Allianz Arena in Munich, Mr. Pallas said.
