Traffic Police and PHA bicker over LED screens

LAHORE: The recently installed light emitting diode (LED) screens on the city’s main roads have started a controversy between the Traffic Police and the Parks and Horticulture Authority (PHA). The Traffic Police have strongly objected to the PHA’s not seeking permission before installing these LED screens. The Traffic Police officials said that if they had been taken into confidence, they could have helped the PHA in defining areas to avoid accidents.

A bill to allow LED signs at churches and community centers in residential neighborhoods appears headed for demise or at the least compromise.  At best the bill to allow Light Emitting Diode (LED) signs in Nashville's residential neighborhoods appears headed for a compromise that will seriously limit their implementation. Mayor to Pass Bill on LED Billboards

Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett is expected to sign a bill passed by the Common Council on LED billboards Tuesday.The Common Council approved LED Billboards that will be able to have messages change every eight seconds instead of every 30 seconds.The test-site for a LED billboard for the past six months has been at Sil's Drive-Thru located on Milwaukee's east side at the busy intersection of North and Oakland avenues.

Creative Technology (CT) and Dimension Audio staged the annual Laureus World Sport Awards in the Mariinsky Theatre Concert Hall in St Petersburg.The two British companies, working for production house Done and Dusted, used Barco OLite 612 LED for the 8x6 module main screen, which was split into four columns that were tracked backwards and forwards on a Vertigo Rigging system during the show to create entrances for winners and presenters to emerge through.

Police often use tasers, rubber bullets and pepper spray to control riots and crowds out of control. But there could soon be a new weapon in their arsenal, a high-tech flashlight - with a big punch. Environmentally friendly LED bulbs are being installed in traffic lights at the city's 605 intersections. They won't save commuters time during rush hour, but officials say the upgrade will save the city about $325,000 a year. "It's going to allow us to save 80 percent on our electric bill," said Patrick Hassett, assistant director of Pittsburgh's Public Works Department. "It's a no-brainer."

On March 3, 2008, Carmanah Technologies Corporation announced a two-year contract to supply the State of New Jersey's Lottery Division with LED edge-lit signage. The contract, valued at up to $500,000, extends from March 1, 2008 until February 28, 2010.
