Albeo Relocates its Operations to Expand LED Lighting Production Line

Albeo Technologies Inc., a LED lighting manufacturer of Boulder, Colorado USA, is relocating its operations to 2108 55th Street in Boulder, a 20,000-square-foot facility that will house production lines, quality control and new engineering and test labs. Albeo said the company is moving from a 12,000-square-foot building at 3125 Sterling Circle in order to better serve its diverse base of customers.

Austriamicrosystems’s new 144-channel LED driver suitable for dot-matrix displays

Austriamicrosystems has announced the AS1119, the most advanced and smallest LED dot-matrix driver, the company said it is targeted for dot-matrix displays in mobile phones, personal electronics and toys. The AS1119 drives 144 LEDs but requires only 9 mm² PCB space, reduces external component count, reduces connector pin count and requires fewer PCB layers. Benefits for end users include an 80 per cent longer battery lifetime, more colourful effects and smoother-running animations.

Panasonic expands its batteries, LED lamp production in Indonesia

PT Panasonic Gobel Indonesia (PGI), cooperation by Japanese electronics manufacturer Panasonic Corporation and the Gobel corporate family, has discussed how to develop its industry in Indonesia. Panasonic had made Indonesia its global production base for several products, including batteries and LED lamps. New lithium coin battery factory in Indonesia is expected to start operation in November.

Expanding production capability, Lextar to adopt 6-inch epitaxial MOCVD equipment

Taiwan’s LED chipmaker Lextar Electronics is expanding its production capability in September in order to adopt  MOCVD machines for 6-inch epitaxial wafers, which made Lextar may be the first LED chip maker in Taiwan with such equipmentmake. Lextar pointed out that its September capacity is expected to reach 90,000 wafers and 750 million LED chips. At the end of the year, the company plans to have a capacity of 130,000 wafers per month and 850 million LED chips.

Cleveland City Council has approved a controversial plan to buy millions of dollars worth of LED lights for the city. The city will ask for bids from companies to provide the lights, in exchange for locating its plant here, but not everyone is sold on this idea. The city's mayor, Frank Jackson, previously attempted to make a deal with a chinese company for the exclusive contract in exchange for opening a manufacturing plant. However, the city council required that there be a competitive bidding process for the contract.

Dow Chemical expands LED material production and will build a plant in S. Korea

The top U.S. chemicals manufacturer Dow Chemical Co. will invest US$45 million to build a plant producing key electronic materials - LED and display panel components in South Korea and the facility will be located in the city of Cheonan, 92 kilometers south of Seoul. Dow Chemical has signed a memorandum of understanding with the governments of South Chungcheong Province and the city of Cheonan. Dow notes that construction for the plant will begin in October and would be completed in 2015.

Greater Amman Municipality (GAM) will install LED system signs and requests a new tender with a cost of JOD 100.000, to import new LED traffic lights, said by the Director of Traffic Operations Department, Eng. Khaled Haddadeen.
