Analog Devices ADP1650 white LED driver available for camera phones

To use the limited battery current available for flash, Analog Devices, Inc. has designed ADP1650 white LED driver, which features a programmable I²C-compatible interface, programmable torch and flash currents for one LED up to 1500mA, two independent TxMASK inputs and a 4-bit ADC. It can provide high efficiency at 85% at the typical battery voltage (90% peak). The ultra-compact ADP1650 measures only 2 × 1.5mm in a 12-ball WLCSP package and reduces PCB requirements.

Toshiba announced E-Core series of LED street lamps

Toshiba announced its E-Core series of LED street lamps, a 400W mercury lamp or a 180W high-pressure sodium lamp. It is possible to realize an average road luminance of 1.0cd/m2 with an average power consumption of 122W (when input is 200V) by using these lamps. The power consumptions of street lamps using a 400W mercury lamp (KSC-4) are 415W and a 180W high-pressure sodium lamp (KSH-2) are 195W.

Topco Energy Saving System schedules to achieve a 20% share of the Japanese market for LED bulbs this year. According to Sunny Tsai , the company president ,the firm with 90% of its sales generated in Japan, has shipped over 100,000 LED bulbs to the country in July alone. What's more, it looks to achieve single-month shipment of over 500,000 units during the Christmas sales season. The firm has commanded an 11% share of the segment in Japan with 6W LED bulbs priced at only NT$349.

AIXTRON announced the financial results for the first half of 2010

AIXTRON did the positive business performance in H1/2010 due to the continuing healthy demand, beneficial volume effects, and a stronger US Dollar. Firstly, compared to H1/2009, the gross margin in H1/2010 was 10 percentage points higher at 53%. The H1/2010 operating result increased year on year by 769% to EUR 106.9m with a 19 percentage points higher EBIT margin of 31%, leading to a net result of EUR 74.1m or 21% return on sales. The H1/2010 net income was 742% up year on year.

Sony prototype 360-degree autostereoscopic display

Sony has developed a prototype 360-degree autostereoscopic display called RayModeler, allowing viewers to see full colour volumetric objects from 360-degree. And no special 3D glasses are needed to see the 3D images. It demonstrated this technology at the SIGGRAPH 2010 convention and the display uses special LED light sources showing 360 unique images to all directions in one-degree separations.
