Streamlight has introduced its brightest LED tactical flashlight ever - the Super-Tac. The new light is a powerful, versatile new tool for tactical and law enforcement professionals operating in low-light situations.

Japan's National Institute of Materials Science (NIMS) announced that it successfully prototyped a white LED composed of red and green phosphors and a blue LED chip. By arbitrarily changing the ratio of red, green and blue components, a light source can be designed in accordance with the color characteristics, etc required for a color filter. Used for an LCD panel backlight source, the white LED exhibited a color gamut of 91% of NTSC in the simulation.

LAHORE: The recently installed light emitting diode (LED) screens on the city’s main roads have started a controversy between the Traffic Police and the Parks and Horticulture Authority (PHA). The Traffic Police have strongly objected to the PHA’s not seeking permission before installing these LED screens. The Traffic Police officials said that if they had been taken into confidence, they could have helped the PHA in defining areas to avoid accidents.

Linear Technology announces the LTC3524, an integrated BIAS and white LED power converter solution for small to medium sized (3" to 7") thin film transistor (TFT) liquid crystal display (LCD) panels. The world's first energy saving full LED headlamp has just won its developers a "red dot" award. Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett is expected to sign a bill passed by the Common Council on LED billboards Tuesday.The Common Council approved LED Billboards that will be able to have messages change every eight seconds instead of every 30 seconds.The test-site for a LED billboard for the past six months has been at Sil's Drive-Thru located on Milwaukee's east side at the busy intersection of North and Oakland avenues.

The U.S. International Trade Commission has agreed to hear a case filed by a former Columbia University professor with a 50-year engineering career, Gertrude Neumark Rothschild, who has accused 34 companies including Nokia, Sony, Motorola, and Samsung of infringing her patents for LEDs and laser diodes. The Emeritus Professor seeks to block the importation into the U.S. of a wide array of consumer electronics products manufactured by the companies that she claims infringe her patent.

According to the Chinese-language Commercial Times, Chunghwa Picture Tubes (CPT) reportedly has seen its LED notebook panels enter the supply chains of Dell and Hewlett Packard (HP).CPT declined to comment, citing client confidentiality, the paper said. But the maker said it had been in talks with clients over the supply of LED notebook panels, which were now being validated, the paper added.
