World First UVC LED Embedded Disinfection Robot Launched in Singapore

Otsaw, the robot manufacturer from Singapore announced that it has launched the world first UVC LED based autonomous robot for disinfection.

The robot, named “O-RX,” is created in only eight weeks from conceptualization, design, materials procurement, prototype testing to certification. The UVC LED embedded disinfecting robot also passed safety testing and has been certified by TUV SUD.

Unlike other current UV disinfecting robot using mercury UV lamps, the O-RX utilizes the UVC LED technology that emits only UVC light, which has been proven to be effective to deactivate microbes, including harmful bacteria and coronaviruses such as COVID-19. Otsaw claimed that the robot has a disinfection rate of more than 99.999% with a range of 2.5 meters.

In order to move around autonomously, the O-RX is also equipped with a 360-degree camera and LiDAR sensors integrated artificial intelligence technologies. The O-RX can be controlled and managed remotely via a fleet management control platform and is capable to be deployed for 5 hours on one full charge. Researchers at the Agency for Science, Technology and Research's (A*STAR) Singapore Institute of Manufacturing Technology (SIMTech) provided their thermal management solution to help remove heat generated by the LED.

A trial run of the UVC LED disinfecting robot will begin at Singapore’s shopping mall Wisma Atria from July 15, 2020.
