Taiwan MOEA Teams up with China Mainland to Develop LED Standards

According to the Ministry of Economic Affairs (MOEA) of Taiwan, it has worked out a set of draft standards governing intelligent LED illumination management and communications, and will team up with mainland China to jointly lead LED standards.

At present, the MOEA is negotiating with mainland Chinese authorities over LED illumination tests in select Chinese cities including Xiamen, Guangdong, and Harbin.

These tests are designed to gauge the performance of Taiwan-made LED illumination products in areas with different types of weather, so that Taiwanese makers can make proper improvements based on the test results, thus eventually facilitating their exports of LED illumination products all over the world.

In the short term, MOEA will start to hold a number of public hearings to seek opinions from local makers of LED lighting products.

It's said that the government-funded Institute for Information Industry (III) has developed an LED-based intelligent illumination management system to be ready for a test run at a large parking complex in Sanchong City, Taipei County.

According to MOEA officials, the III-developed system is the first of its kind available in the world, able to reduce power consumption by at least 70 percent.

III has transferred technologies related to the intelligent LED illumination management system to local makers, and they shared the view that such a management system enjoys great market potential in the future.
