China Electric Mfg. to Make Cut-rate Strategy for 7.5W LED Bulb

China Electric Mfg. Corp. has intended to roll out 7.5W LED light bulbs retailed below NT$400 (US$13 at US$1:NT$30) sometime in April.

The price range represents a huge markdown from NT$500 (US$16) for 7W bulbs it launched in 2011, as well as a 25% cut from the price of the first batch of 7.5W bulbs it introduced previously. At the heart of the company’s cut-price plan is LED chips sourced from Lextar Electronics.

With the cut-rate strategy, the company estimated it would help to achieve the goal of selling 500,000-600,000 LED light bulbs for around NT$200 million (US$6.6 million) in revenue by the end of 2012, quadrupling from last year’s volume.

Besides, the company will make availability of its 9W and 12W LED bulbs as replacement for 60W incandescent bulbs and intelligent LED lighting control system based on smartphones next quarter. According to the company’s general manager, Z.W. Chang, the 9W bulbs will go on sales next month to rival 8W bulbs with their 35% more light output.

Chang also pointed out that LED lighting sales would increase to account for around 30% of the company’s revenue in 2012, up from last year’s 10%.
