Samuel Wu takes over the OSRAM business in Asia

Commencing on the 1st of April 2012, Samuel Wu (46) has taken over the OSRAM business for the Asian Pacific region. He is the successor of Fran Piscitelli (63), who will be retiring after more than 35 successful years with OSRAM. Samuel Wu, who was born in China, has comprehensive international management expertise with a deep knowledge of clients and culture in China. “This is of particular importance for us, considering the largest single light market worldwide. Samuel Wu can build upon the achievements of Piscitelli, who has merited much credit for his work in expanding our business within this region. For this we owe him our special thanks” Wolfgang Dehen, chairman of the managing board at OSRAM AG, said.

Samuel Wu has an enormous knowledge of the second-largest economy in the world with many years of experience in the process solutions business. After various managerial posts at General Electric, the native Chinese most recently worked for the US-American Honeywell Group where he was responsible for the Chinese business regarding industrial and process automation.

According to a comprehensive market survey in the field of general lighting, the rapidly growing Asian region today already holds a global share of approximately 35 percent – and by 2020 this share is expected to increase to 45 percent. The Chinese market alone, currently already with a volume of more than 8 billion euros, is expected to more than double in volume by 2020. In the fiscal year 2011 OSRAM generated about one fifth of its group sales in the Asia Pacific region. The company has more than 16,000 employees here – more than in any other region of the world – of which around half of them are working in China. Here OSRAM has already been represented with its products for about 80 years and covers the entire value chain.
