St. Mary- Corwin Medical Center is a Pueblo- based medical organization in Colorado, U.S., which switched from conventional lightings to LED ones in November 2015.

The upgrade to LED lights costs US $900, 000, which is expected to cut almost 22% of the annual energy bill.

The decision to convert all conventional lightings to LED ones was encouraged by the successful cases of other businesses, said Mike Cafasso, vice president of operations for St. Mary-Corwin. The local energy company Black Hills Energy also provide rebate program, and Black Hills provided a 50% rebate for the expense of the conversion.

The whole- campus LED switch ended up replacing 28,000 conventional fluorescent tubes with LED bulbs. The conversion was completed by Step Energy Solutions.

Nurses also participated in the selection of LED lights. Step Energy Solutions set up demonstration rooms where nurses and other hospital staff could evaluate the lighting effects to decide the one most suitable for particular areas.

Officials from Black Hills conducted an audit to confirm that the new lighting conversion meets all requirements for the rebate program, said Cafasso.

The energy savings from LED lights conversion will be used to make improvement in patient care, he added.
