ANSI Accredited Standards Committee Revises Luminaire and Control Device Related Electrical Transient Immunity Requirements ANSI C136.2-2015

The National Electrical Manufacturers Association (NEMA) announced that ANSI Accredited Standards Committee C136 revised ANSI C136.2-2015 Dielectric Withstand and Electrical Transient Immunity Requirements. This standard covers luminaires and control devices classified for up to 600-volt operation. It is also intended for use in roadway and area lighting applications. It contains minimum performance requirements and test procedures for evaluating luminaire and control devices under test for the following:

  • Dielectric withstand

  • Electrical transient immunity

Originally developed by the ANSI Accredited Standards Committee C136 on Roadway and Area Lighting Equipment, changes to this revision include:

  • Inclusion of product family language

  • Dielectric Withstand Test now includes hipot tester use

  • Addition of coupler/decoupler network language in the Transient Immunity Test

  • Additional Ring Wave and Combination Wave Test Specifications

ANSI C136.2-2015 may be purchased or downloaded for $40 on the NEMA website.
