The procurement price of LED bulbs may have hit a record low at INR 54.90 (US $0.82), and it could continue to drop as Indian government promotes energy-efficient technology across the country.

Energy Efficiency Services Ltd (EESL) said that the latest round of LED bulb procurement price has reached a considerable low level under Unnat Jyoti by Affordable LEDs for Al (UJALA) scheme, reported Times of India.

The procurement cost of LED bulbs has fallen further to INR 54.90 per unit from INR 64.41 under domestic efficient lighting program of the Indian government, which will further reduce the retail price to INR 75 to INR 95. The retail price of LED bulbs vary from province to province due to taxing difference.

Given that LED bulbs have seen a slight price increase in European and North American regions in March, it’s apparent that Indian authorities will continue to focus on lowering LED bulbs’ price.

As of early April, EESL has distributed more than 90 million LED bulbs under DELP while other public sectors have distributed up to 60 million LED bulbs to civilians.
