Samsung LED (CEO, Jaekwon Kim) announced on September 20th that its mid-power 2323 LED package has now exceeded 6,000 hours of independent, EPA recognized 3rd party IES LM80 testing and the company is now able to provide LM80 test data upon request.

On July 15, Samsung LED Co., Ltd. filed a complaint with the United States International Trade Commission (“ITC”) in which it has requested the ITC to issue an exclusion order barring importation of products of OSRAM, OSRAM Opto Semiconductors, and OSRAM Sylvania Inc. into the United States. Samsung LED is reported to obtain the Energy Star certification which is an international yardstick of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) of the United States as to the purchase of lighting equipment. According to the company, it is the first of its kind in Korea, acquired ISO 17025 for LM79 (illumination) and LM80 (LED) from the Korea Laboratory Accreditation Scheme. It’s said that Samsung LED has decided to team up with Japan’s Sumitomo Chemical to build a sapphire ingot plant in Daegu. They plan to break the ground in the 11,000 square meter site on April 20, with the target date for completion in coming October. According to their plan, the plant is going to begin production next year.
