PGE Announces the Installation of 26,000 LED Streetlights to Replace HPS Streetlights

Portland General Electric (PGE) recently announced a large scale installation of LED streetlights with the goal of reducing energy consumption and costs for its municipal customers. The first deployment was conducted in February 2013, in Clackamas County, and focused on taking the places of 8,000 high pressure sodium (HPS) cobra-head streetlights with LED streetlights. Ultimately, PGE plans to replace 26,000 HPS streetlights throughout forty-seven cities and five counties. The first installations will focus on lower wattage roadway streetlights followed by inter...

Frisco, Texas, Evaluates LED Streetlights

The city of Frisco, Texas, has launched an effort to assess and evaluate energy efficient LED streetlights for the city’s roadway illumination needs. A Request for Information (RFI) was issued to assist city officials in their review of solid-state lighting, and to ensure the best application of energy efficient technology. In addition to LED streetlights, the city is also interested in reviewing lighting control systems, and the possibility of using existing streetlighting poles for small cell devices. Frisco currently maintains approximately 5,000 streetlights on a...

Green Lights Go On Stamford Streets

In Stamford, Conn., they’re taking green to the streets in the form of energy-efficient LED streetlights, which are set to replace more than a thousand high-pressure sodium streetlights in the city’s main corridors. This green retrofit is expected to save the city more than $146,000 per year. This improvement is being made possible, in part, by a federal Energy Efficiency and Conservation Block Grant, a program that helps to fund energy efficiency and conservation programs across the country. Funding through this grant will allow the city to replace existing stre...
