Philips signs up for euroLED 2012 at NEC on 13th and 14th June

Philips has signed up for the ninth annual euroLED exhibition, gala dinner and conference. The Birmingham Science Park event for the LED (Light Emitting Diode) and solid state lighting industry is being held at the NEC on 13th and 14th June 2012.

A record number of lighting industry professionals have pre-registered for the event, which attracts over 2,000 visitors from across Europe each year. Philips and Philips Lumileds are taking one of the largest stands at the euroLED exhibition, as well as being a premier sponsor and a keynote conference speaker.

Mark van den Berg, Marketing Director of Philips Lumileds - who has been the main driver for the adoption of the brand’s LUXEON LED technology across Europe - said: “Creating light is something we, at Philips have done for many years and, creating light with LED is something that excites us enormously. Showcasing our latest innovations at euroLED, which attracts such a high calibre of industry professionals from across Europe, is central to our marketing strategy.

“There are so many more possibilities with LED lighting, but equally as many challenges. Despite these challenges, we truly believe LED lighting is now ready to be used effectively in almost all lighting applications, varying from accent lighting in a retail environment to office lighting at higher efficiencies than fluorescent lighting. Street lighting is also taking advantage of LED technology by turning yellowish outdoor light into white LED light, which is creating safer environments.”

There will be over 95 exhibitors at euroLED 2012. In addition to Philips, the event is also sponsored by Arrow Electronics, PurEcoLED, global accreditation specialist Underwriters Laboratories (UL), and media company Total Lighting.

euroLED is widely recognised as Europe’s leading showcase event for the lighting industry. Once again this year, Birmingham Science Park is partnering with experienced international conference organisers Smithers Apex to deliver the technical conference.

Michelle Cleaver, Birmingham Science Park’s Head of euroLED said: “euroLED is now in its ninth year and the high-growth nature of the lighting industry ensures the event grows in size year on year. By holding kicker events throughout the year, we have been able to really get to the heart of what our visitors, exhibitors, sponsors and conference delegates require, and our decision to move the event to Birmingham’s NEC has been widely supported.

“The reason why euroLED is so important to Birmingham Science Park is to promote and support the work of our Optical Performance Centre, which has an international reputation for research, testing and accreditation. Many new millionaires are expected to be created from SME lighting companies by 2016, and our team is doing everything it can to nurture these innovative businesses and seek to create some lighting millionaires here on home soil.”
