Everlight Secures Automotive Manufacturer Orders as LED Automotive Lighting Demands Flourish

Flourishing development in automotive lighting has grabbed the attention of many LED manufacturers. Last week, Taiwanese LED manufacturer Everlight announced that it has already secured orders from large European and Japanese automotive manufacturers. It is the first Taiwanese manufacturer to break out of the after-sales market and ship directly to automotive manufacturers.

Global automotive demand for new vehicles is estimated to reach 90 million this year, according to an industry insider. Retail volume is anticipated to surpass 100 million with the inclusion of trucks and other large size transportation vehicles. LED lighting makes up a large portion of the light sources require by these vehicles, which has not gone unnoticed by LED manufacturers.

Taiwanese LED manufacturers are still mainly lumped in the after-sales market. Everlight, however, has broken into the automotive supply chain. The company has secured long term orders in exterior LED automotive lighting, as well as interior mounted LED lighting.

Automotive lighting made up around 5 percent of the company’s overall lighting revenue in 1Q14 and is anticipated to gradually increase each quarter. Incoming orders by automotive manufacturers is anticipated to boost the proportion to 10 percent by the end of the year.
