India to Install LED Floodlights along Border with Pakistan

India will be installing LED floodlights along its border neighboring Pakistan, in the first phase of the project lights in various sections covering districts of Jaisalmer, Bikaner, Granganagar and Barmer in Rajasthan have been replaced, reported Times of India.

The entire LED floodlight upgrade will cost an estimated INR 4.5 million (US $67,436.01).

The floodlights installed between 1989 to 1993, to deter intruders, smugglers and other illegal border activities was not completed till 1999, said BSF Rajasthan Frontier IG B R Meghwal. To conserve power, the Center is replacing these floodlights with LEDs in an experimental project along the 111.5 kilometer Rajasthan border after fellow Indian state Punjab.

New LED light poles will be erected, while the old light poles will be removed.

Punjab has started to replace flood lights with LED versions, and if proven successful Rajasthan will initiate its LED floodlight upgrade.
