Nichia Files New LED Patent Infringement Lawsuits Respectively in China and U.S.

Global leading LED manufacturer Nichia has filed another patent infringement lawsuit against U.S. TV manufacturer Vizio in Central California Court, just one day after filing a lawsuit in the Eastern Texas. Moreover, the Japanese company is enforcing its YAG patents in China, and filed a lawsuit against Everlight subsidiary and distributor in China earlier this month. Below are Nichia’s statements related to the cases:

On March 23, 2016, Nichia Corporation ("Nichia") filed a patent infringement lawsuit against a US-based LCD TV maker, in the United States District Court for the Central District of California. The lawsuit alleges that the defendant is infringing four patents (U.S. Patents Nos. 7,855,092, 7,901,959, 7,915,631 and 8,309,375) held by Nichia relating to LED technology.

In the lawsuit, Nichia seeks an injunction and damages for the alleged infringement.

Nichia enforces YAG related patents against Everlight China

On March 4, 2016, Nichia Corporation (“Nichia”) filed several patent infringement lawsuits in China at Beijing Intellectual Property Court against Everlight Electronics (China) (“Everlight China”) and Beijing Ducheng Yiguang Electronic Devices Selling Center, Everlight China is a subsidiary of Taiwanese LED manufacturer Everlight Electronics and Beijing Ducheng Yiguang Electronic Devices Selling Center is an authorized distributor of Everlight.

In the lawsuit, Nichia is seeking a permanent injunction and damages against defendants based on Nichia’s YAG related patents (Chinese Invention Patent No. 97196762.8 (“762 patent”) and Chinese Invention Patent No. 200610095837.4 (“837 patent”)). Nichia believes that LED products 334-15/T1C1-4VXC-L(ES) and 67-21UMC/S3031/TR8/LT, which were sold in China, infringe the 762 patent and the 837 patent, and LED product 67-21S/KK2C-H6565M41N42936Z6/2T, which was also sold in China, infringes the 762 patent.

Nichia seeks to protect its patents and other intellectual property rights and takes actions against alleged infringers in any country where appropriate and necessary.
