Vietnam Capital Pushes for LED Public Lighting System

Authorities of Vietnam capital Hanoi plans to roll out LED streetlight upgrade across the city, and has recently called on municipal agencies to scale up installation of LED lights in public lighting system in the locality to save energy, reported Vietnam Plus.

The Hanoi People’s Committee is calling for the use of LED bulbs in public infrastructures, roads and urban areas.

Municipal districts, the Department of Construction, and the Department of Transportation have been asked by the committee to prioritize installation of LED streetlights. Government agencies were requested not to use conventional incandescent and halogen lamps in public lighting systems.

The Department of Construction is asked to implement necessary measures to increase efficiency of public lighting works.

The new LED streetlights are expected to reduce expenditures on streetlights by VND 90 billion to VND120 billion (US $4 million to US $5.38 million). The Vietnam capital spends about VND 260 billion on streetlights each year.

The city aims to cut energy consumption by 2% to 3% this year.
