Indian State Chhattisgarh Distributed 190,000 LED bulbs and Saved Money for its Taxpayers

More than 190,000 KED bulbs were distributed in Chhattisgarh following central government’s “Unnat Jyoti by Affordable LEDs for All' ( UJALA )” project in the past two and half months, reported ETEnergy works.

Chhattisgarh stands as the sole Indian state that distributes 3 LED bulbs free of charge to BPL consumers. The goal under UJALA is to give out more than 14 million LED bulbs, according to an official spokesman.

Consumers are allowed to purchase up to ten 9W LED bulbs at a discount price at INR 85 per light bulb, which is extremely inexpensive compared to the market price at around INR 300 to INR 350

Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL), a joint venture between public sector worked with the state in distributing LED bulbs. The use of LED bulbs lowers energy consumption and of course save money. Complete distribution of LED bulbs will save the state INR 30 million a year.
