HC SemiTek Investment in PSS Blossoms

HC SemiTek’s production capacity for patterned sapphire substrate (PSS) has reached 10,000 pieces per month with a self-supply rate of more than 50 percent, said Secretary of the Board Yeh Aimin on April 24 2014. 

The company’s Suzhou subsidiary is not yet prepared for PSS production, said Yeh. The Suzhou factory currently produces 4 inch epitaxial wafers, which has a high quality requirement for PSS. HC SemiTek is currently improving the manufacturing quality for 4 inch PSS. 

Remaining balance for expenses used for in their high brightness LED PSS manufacturing technique R&D project was RMB 3.81 million (US $50.8 million), according to the company’s fiscal 2013 financial report. Accrual at current period was RMB 1.79 million and ending balance was RMB 5.6 million. Investment in the PSS business has been beneficial for the company.
