Xcel Energy Offers Businesses Rebates for Lighting Science Group's Ultra-Efficient and ENERGY STAR Approved LED Bulbs

It's reported that Xcel Energy is offering businesses rebates in Minnesota and Colorado for the installation of ENERGY STAR approved bulbs. Underwent several rigid tests, Lighting Science Group received the LED lighting industry's first ENERGY STAR label for its PAR38 LED bulb and recently received approval for use of the ENERGY STAR label for its PAR30 and MR16 LED bulb types.

Taiwan Epistar Predicts the Global Penetration Rate of LED-backlit TV Sets to Glow Double in 2011

According to Taiwan's largest LED chip maker Epistar President M.J. Jou's report on the sidelines of the LED Forum 2010 in Taipei, the global penetration rate of LED-backlit TV sets will likely double to 40 percent in 2011, but it expected Q4 of 2010 to remain slow. Jou also predicted that global shipments of LED TVs would grow in 2011 at twice the rate seen in 2010, but he did not offer specific figures.

Bright LED、Everlight、Harvatek’s 3Q revenues declined compared to last quarter

Bright LED's revenues for 3Q10 slipped by 6% to NT$1.41 billion, but thanks to improved product mix, gross margin up to 16.56% from 15.59% in 2Q. Operation gross profit for 3Q was NT$190 million with an operating margin of 13.52%. Pure income for 3Q was NT$143 million with an EPS of NT$0.73. In the first three quarters of 2010, the company’s revenues totaled NT$3.95 billion, and net profit reached NT$344 million with an EPS of NT$1.75.

Epistar and Formosa net profits for 3Q achieved NT$1.9 billion and NT$446 million, respectively

In 3Q10, Epistar's consolidated revenues reached NT$5.68 billion, up 8.3% sequentially. Gross margin was 40.7%, up from 39% in 2Q. Operating income was NT$1.7 billion with operating margin of 30%. Net profit was NT$1.9 billion up 12% sequentially. For the first three quarters of 2010, Epistar consolidated revenues totaled NT$15.9 billion, gross margin 39.5%, and operating income NT$4.63 billion with 29% operating margin. Net profits were NT$4.6 billion with an EPS of NT$5.81.

Epistar Partnered with China Electronics to Build Epistar-CEC venture

Taiwan-based LED maker Epistar has partnered with China Electronics Corp. (CEC) to build a joint venture, which will bring in a large number of MOCVD chambers, and concentrate on production of epitaxial wafers, chips, light sources and lighting products in southern China. It's reported that each company will hold a 45% stake in the joint venture, leaving the remaining 10% to another partner.

MPI publics finance result in 3Q10

Wafer probe card maker MJC Probe (MPI) earned profit NT$272 million (US$8.88 million), up 56%compared to 2Q ,with NT$3.52 per share in net profits, exceeding the total for the whole first half. Gross margin reached about 44.6%, higher than previously expected by market observers. From 1Q to 3Q in 2010, the company posted net profits of NT$515 million, EPS of NT$6.67 and gross margin of 41.7%.

Cree LED revenue for 3Q was weaker than expected

Affected from LED chip sales in the backlighting market decline, Cree’s revenue for 3Q was about $268.4 million, up 59% compared to the same quarter in 2009 and increasing 1.5% sequentially, but the result was weaker than expected before. Cree’s LED chip sales down almost 20% result from weakness in notebook and monitor backlighting demand.Before that, analysts thought the company’s revenues for 3Q would reach $278 million. But the true amount was weaker than expected to $268.4 million.
