It’s reported that Taiwan Delta Electronics is about to sell LED Lighting products on its own Brand in Taiwan’s retail stores at the end of 2010 as well as likely in overseas markets . According to Delta, regulation, standardization and modulization are made up its three main criteria for LED lighting market growth. Besides, product designs in not only aesthetics and light but also color control will also play major roles.

A president of Lextar Electronics estimated, usually, market demand growth will increase significantly when market share reaches 15-20%, and LED-backlit TV market share will reach around 20% in 2010.

In 3Q10, AUO was the only profitable panel maker in Taiwan due to its leading shipments of LED-backlit TVs, in which LED-backlit TV panels accounted for 30% of its total TV panels. But look into 4Q, the company was expected to slow down result from vendors adjust LED-backlit TV shipment goals due to high product prices.

Recently, a leader of Epistar noted, LED-backlit TV market penetration would reach 40% in 2011 from 20% in 2010, and Epistar planed to ramp up capacity by 30% in 2011 after already raising its capacity by 30-40% in 2010. The leader pointed out that because of upstream material shortage, seasonal impacts, downstream LED TV customers adjusting inventory and in the process of transferring to newer models, 4Q10 may become a difficult time for LED backlight companies.

WPG was expected its revenues would reach NT$10 billion (US$328.08 million) from sales of silicon wafers and LED products at least. The company planed to sell LED lighting products for Osram and Cree. Similarly, Wahlee Industrial’s solar-grade polycrystalline silicon (poly-Si) wafers was expected to contribute NT$900 million to NT$1 billion to the company's total revenues in 2010, and the amount is likely to double in 2011.

USHIO America, a wholly owned subsidiary of USHIO Inc, has kicked off marketing the world's first 6-inch full-field projection exposure system for manufacturing LED chips in the US. USHIO developed its new exposure system — model UX4-LEDs —that allows full-field exposure of 6-inch wafers while preventing wafer warpage or distortion, achieving a throughput enhancement of 300% compared with conventional stepper systems.

Fusion Optix, a leading developer of solutions for advanced lighting markets, announced  that it has formed a partnership with WNI, a private company in South Korea, to distribute its products to original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) and other customers in South Korea. The agreement covers WNI distributing all Fusion Optix optical components and materials which are designed for use in applications such as general illumination, LED and solid state lighting, LCD backlighting, solar energy and daylighting.

LED lighting manufacturer Seesmart, Inc. of Simi Valley, CA has teamed up with control systems manufacturer Lagotek Corporation of Bellevue, WA to deliver maximum energy efficiency to commercial customers. Under the cooperation, Seesmart’s full line of LED lighting products can now be controlled to include zoning and dimming capabilities and programmable events.

Dow Electronic Materials, a business unit of The Dow Chemical Company has begun to set up a new metalorganic precursor manufacturing plant in Cheonan, Korea, as a part of a multi-phase plan announced in June 2010 to expand TrimethylGallium (TMG) production capacity to meet the surging global demand for the material in the LED and related electronics markets. It is expected to be operational in early 2011.And benefiting from the multi-phase plan, total additional capacity is expected to be 60 metric tons per year.

PPL Electric Utilities and Allentown, Pennsylvania were partnering on the project，which were to install LED-based street lights in a 53-fixture retrofit ,in order to save enough electricity to power 1.5 to 2.5 homes. General Electric (GE) Lighting Systems and Cooper Lighting would supply LED lights for the project trial.

LCD TV maker Amtran Technology posted 3Q revenue of NT$15.27 billion, up 6% quarter-over-quarter and 5% year-over-year, with EPS of NT$0.63. Operating profit stood at NT$0.438 billion, with the operating margin of 2.87%. Net profit stood at NT$0.49 billion, with EPS of NT$0.63. Gross profit arrived at NT$2.049 billion, with the gross margin of 13.42%. In the first three quarters, accumulated revenues totaled NT$42.863 billion, and net profit reached NT$1.356 billion, with EPS of NT$1.77.

AU Optronics Corp. (2409) recently announced its unaudited results for 3Q10. The company posted consolidated revenue of NT$124,403 million (about US$3,989 million), down 3.3% from 2Q. Gross profit stood at NT$6,241 million (about US$200 million), with the gross margin of 5.0%. Operating profit arrived at NT$232 million (about US$7 million), with the operating margin of 0.2%. AUO's net income for 3Q came in at NT$227 million (approximately US$7 million) after tax.

It's reported that Xcel Energy is offering businesses rebates in Minnesota and Colorado for the installation of ENERGY STAR approved bulbs. Carmanah Technologies Corporation and ADB Airfield Solutions have received a over  $300,000 USD purchase order from the Venezuela Air Force for a joint solar and AC-powered airfield lighting system, as part of an infrastructure upgrade at an undisclosed base.

According to Taiwan's largest LED chip maker Epistar President M.J. Jou's report on the sidelines of the LED Forum 2010 in Taipei, the global penetration rate of LED-backlit TV sets will likely double to 40 percent in 2011, but it expected Q4 of 2010 to remain slow. Jou also predicted that global shipments of LED TVs would grow in 2011 at twice the rate seen in 2010, but he did not offer specific figures.

Bright LED's revenues for 3Q10 slipped by 6% to NT$1.41 billion, but thanks to improved product mix, gross margin up to 16.56% from 15.59% in 2Q. Operation gross profit for 3Q was NT$190 million with an operating margin of 13.52%. Pure income for 3Q was NT$143 million with an EPS of NT$0.73. In the first three quarters of 2010, the company’s revenues totaled NT$3.95 billion, and net profit reached NT$344 million with an EPS of NT$1.75.

In 3Q10, Epistar's consolidated revenues reached NT$5.68 billion, up 8.3% sequentially. Gross margin was 40.7%, up from 39% in 2Q. Operating income was NT$1.7 billion with operating margin of 30%. Net profit was NT$1.9 billion up 12% sequentially. For the first three quarters of 2010, Epistar consolidated revenues totaled NT$15.9 billion, gross margin 39.5%, and operating income NT$4.63 billion with 29% operating margin. Net profits were NT$4.6 billion with an EPS of NT$5.81.

LG Electronics’ consolidated revenues reached 13.4 trillion (US$ 11.3 billion) for 3Q10, a 2% decline year on year, and Net profit was 8 billion.

Lite-On Technology (2301) reported 3Q worldwide consolidated sales of NT$31.86 billion, up 20% YoY, while posting a net profit of NT$2.53 billion with EPS of NT$1.14.

Taiwan-based LED maker Epistar has partnered with China Electronics Corp. (CEC) to build a joint venture, which will bring in a large number of MOCVD chambers, and concentrate on production of epitaxial wafers, chips, light sources and lighting products in southern China. It's reported that each company will hold a 45% stake in the joint venture, leaving the remaining 10% to another partner.
