Pittsburgh International Airport to Switch to LEDs with $800K Grant

The Pittsburgh International Airport has get an $800,000 grant to install LED lighting, a county executive Monday announced. Nearly 1,500 LED Lights will be installed in parking lots, and garages in the airport.

The lights that will be replaced are in the long-term and extended parking lots as well as the three-level parking garage at the airport. The LED lighting system will consume an estimated 83 percent less energy and result in $158,754 in annual energy savings, with 2,118,438 kWh saved over the project's lifetime.

The grant funding is coming through the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection from Duquesne Light. The total project cost is $1.6 million, and the Authority's matching funds of $800,000 will come from energy savings from the project over approximately the next 10 years.
