LEDinside Says Prices of LED Light Bulbs Fell in July but Demand for LED Filament Lamps Remained Hot in Europe

LEDinside, a division of TrendForce, reports that the global average sales prices (ASP) of LED light bulbs fell in July compared with the prior month. The global ASP of 40-watt equivalent products dropped by 0.9% to US$6.5, while the global ASP of 60-watt equivalent products dropped by 2.8% to US$7.8.

City of Yakima Selects Ameresco for Citywide LED Street Light Project

Ameresco, Inc. announced that it has been selected by the City of Yakima to develop and implement a citywide LED street light project through an Energy Savings Performance Contract (ESPC). The City upgraded 400 of its downtown street lights to LED in 2009 using American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) funding. The new project will convert the balance of the City's 4,000 remaining high pressure sodium street lights, as well as parking, parks and other outdoor lighting, to new LED lighting. Ameresco will also assist the City in applying for a Washington Department of Commerce energy efficiency grant to help pay for the project.

Oak Ridge Receives a Grant of $200,000 for Installing LED Lights

Most existing fluorescent lights in the Oak Ridge Central Services Complex Building, Civic Center and Municipal Building are being replaced with LED lights through a grant, Tennessee Gov. Bill Haslam said. Oak Ridge received $200,000 in Clean Tennessee Energy Grant for purchasing the new LED lights. Recently, the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) reported that Canandaigua in New York was the first OLED pilot manufacturing site in USA. The pilot line occupied 140,000-square-foot area. The Universal Display Corporation (UDC) who had been given $4 million by DOE was a member of the OLED pilot project. Also, UDC, MBT, New York’s Smart System Technology & Commercialization Center (STC) were partners on the project, which leverages an $11.5 million investment from MBT, state government incentives available through the STC, and municipal tax credits.

Temple Square Moving Toward LED Holiday Display

When the switch is flipped the day after Thanksgiving, hundreds of thousands of lights will illuminate Temple Square and some of them will be energy-conserving LED lights. Within the next three to five years, all of the trees and greenery on Temple Square will be lit with LED lights. The LED lights are low energy, according to Eldon Cannon, group manager for Temple Square’s Ground Services. “They do not use nearly as much electricity, and as a result we will be saving energy and saving costs.”

Boston Common Goes Green with LEDs

Continuing its “green” city initiatives to reduce energy use and greenhouse gas emissions, the City of Boston is updating its streetlights with LED technology on Boston Common. The City recently installed LED lights along the “Mayor’s Walk” as part of an effort to showcase the technology and solicit community input. The temporary installation features “acorn” style streetlamps from six different manufacturers.
