LED Price Trend in 1Q10 According to LEDinside's price trend report, LED supply and demand are fairly stable in the first quarter of 2010. There is a seasonal proce erosion of 2-5% across backlight applications. For LED lighting application, the QoQ price erosion of high power LED appeared to be more servere, over 10%, due to invantory adjustment.

Fallon Luminous Products Corp., a leading manufacturer of lighted signs, announced that yesterday the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit in Washington D.C. overturned the earlier decision of the District Court in Cookeville, Tennessee, and ruled in favor of Fallon in its appeal of a patent infringement suit brought against Fallon by iLight Technologies. The Court vacated both the monetary judgment and the injunction that had been entered against Fallon by the District Court.

Dialight plc, the UK based leader in applied LED technology, announces the acquisition of BTI Light Systems A/S ("BTI"), a Danish company offering signaling and safety equipment for the wind, marine and airport industries. BTI is being acquired from its management for a total consideration of DKK 26m (£3.0m), DKK 18m (£2.1m) of which is payable in cash with the remainder in Dialight shares.

AIXTRON AG announced today a new order for more Planetary and Showerhead HB-GaN LED MOCVD tools from Jiang Su Can Yang, a joint venture with Formosa Epitaxy Inc. (FOREPI), an established AIXTRON customer and one of Taiwan’s leading manufacturers of ultra high brightness (UHB) LEDs. Jiang Su Can Yang placed the order in the fourth quarter of 2009. The Planetary Reactor® systems in a 11x4 inch configuration and Close Coupled Showerhead® tools in a 31x2 inch configuration will be delivered between the second and the fourth quarter of 2010.

The new 'DoubleDome' series from Sharp incorporates three white light SMD LEDs with a colour rendering index (CRI) of 85. A silicone globe top applied directly on the phosphorous, with lens-like moulding, facilitates highly efficient light extraction. Sharp is supplementing its LED lighting portfolio with three new white 'high colour rendering', high-performance LEDs. The 'DoubleDome' LEDs from Sharp already provide suitable light for energy-efficient lighting without secondary optics.

OSRAM Opto Semiconductors today held an opening ceremony for its 35,000 square meter new LED wafer fabrication plant in Penang, Malaysia. It is the company’s first ever LED chip plant in Asia and currently the most modern facility in the world. The plant will produce chips for light emitting diodes, the light source of the future. Y.B.
