Korean Researchers to Develop LED Display Module to Transmit Sound

A research center of Korea Aerospace University and an audio technology company, Sonictier initiated a joint project to develop a 25 square meter LED display module that is capable of passing sound through its holes.

Currently in theaters, the speakers are installed behind the screen. With the intention to replace conventional screens with LED displays, the Korean research team intended to develop LED display module which can transmit voices.

LEDinside has noticed that the development of display products has moved toward consumer entertainment and theatre applications. Samsung officially launched a cinema screen in 2017 which was adopted by the Korean Lotte World Tower Cinema and in China's Wanda Theatre. SONY has also revealed its determination to promote LED displays into cinemas and showcased its LED cinema at InfoComm 2018. Many believe that with the development of Micro LED, the large size LED displays would bring an evolution to the global cinema market.
