FLEx Lighting Raises US$ 9 Million in Funding for Low Power Tablet Displays

FLEx Lighting, a U.S.-based leader of front lighting for low power displays, announced that it has raised a US$9 million Series B fund from SABIC Ventures, Bascom Ventures, and others. With the funding, FLEx intends to expand its product portfolio with new sized displays while improving its global presentation.

FLEx Lighting was founded in 2004 with its initial technology built by converting xenon light bulbs, fiber optics and plastic film into a compact system of LEDs and optical film. The company further developed a power-efficient and sunlight-readable front light system suitable for displays of devices.

Through the Series B funding, FLEx plans to enhance the development of new products including 7-inch and bigger tablet displays, consumer applications, and other larger personal information displays. One of the suppliers, SABIC, will help to expands FLEx's supply chain and materials expertise for display products as well as for future applications in automotive and general lighting.
