Cree Announces Patent License Agreement with Ledvance

Cree, Inc. today announced that it signed a cross license agreement with Ledvance, Inc. under which Cree will receive ongoing royalty payments and a royalty-free license to Ledvance’s patent portfolio. In exchange, Ledvance will receive a license to Cree’s extensive portfolio of patents related to LED light bulbs and LED luminaires.

Cree Reports Financial Results for the Second Quarter of Fiscal Year 2017

Cree, Inc., a market leader in LED lighting, today announced consolidated revenue of $347 million from continuing operations, and $54 million from discontinued operations, for a combined revenue of $401 million for its second quarter of fiscal 2017. This represents an 8% decrease compared to combined revenue of $436 million ($394 million from continuing operations and $42 million from discontinued operations) for the second quarter of fiscal 2016 and an 8% increase compared to the first quarter of fiscal 2017. Combined GAAP net income for the second quarter of fiscal 2017 was $6 million, or $0.06 per diluted share, compared to combined GAAP net income of $13 million, or $0.13 per diluted share, for the second quarter of fiscal 2016. On a non-GAAP basis, combined net income for the second quarter of fiscal 2017 was $30 million, or $0.30 per diluted share, compared to combined non-GAAP net income for the second quarter of fiscal 2016 of $28 million, or $0.28 per diluted share.

New York Town Slashes Energy Costs by US $57M with Cree LED Streetlights

The Town of Hempstead, N.Y., the largest township in the country, is making the switch to LED technology with the conversion of more than 50,000 high-pressure sodium fixtures to LED street lights from Cree. The installation is already underway with future phases planned to bring LED lighting to the town’s municipal buildings, parks and marinas. This represents a 2% increase compared to revenue of $382 million reported for the fourth quarter of fiscal 2015, and a 6% increase compared to the third quarter of fiscal 2016. GAAP net loss for the fourth quarter was $11 million, or $0.11 per diluted share, compared to GAAP net loss of $88 million, or $0.83 per diluted share, for the fourth quarter of fiscal 2015. On a non-GAAP basis, net income for the fourth quarter of fiscal 2016 was $19 million, or $0.19 per diluted share, compared to non-GAAP net loss for the fourth quarter of fiscal 2015 of $21 million, or $0.19 per diluted share.
