Power Integrations Launches LED Driver with 88%-efficient for 100W Bulb Replacement

Power Integrations has launched an 18W non-isolated A19 LED driver with 88%-efficient. It’s designed for a 100W incandescent bulb replacement and will support low-line (90 VAC to 135 VAC) operation. According to Andrew Smith, product marketing manager at Power Integrations, "The lighting industry typically asks for 80% efficiency for drivers targeting 60W A19 bulb replacements. To achieve viable LED-based replacements for 75W and 100W bulbs, much higher efficiency is needed in order to reduce the heat dissipated by the driver. The 88% efficiency...

Power Integrations Launched 75 W Single-Stage LED Lighting Driver

Power Integrations has added two new devices to its LinkSwitch™-PH IC family. The new devices allow commercial lighting applications up to 75 W to benefit from single-stage design, reducing BOM cost and enabling a smaller driver with high efficiency. LNK410EG (dimming) and LNK420EG (non-dimming) provide a constant-current output with a PF- corrected and low THD input. The capabilities of the new devices are showcased in RDR-290, a reference design describing a single-output driver for high-bay lighting. RDR-290 is 92.2% efficient at 230 VAC...

Information on practical DC Drive Circuitry for LEDs

All LEDs are  driven electrically before they can emit quality light.  This is one of their basic characteristics which differentiate them from other kinds of light sources.  In this write-up, we’re going to be focusing on the DC drive circuitry for LEDs. In the first place, the battery is a typical DC source. It’s usually used for flashlights. It can as well serve as the output of a converter.  Actually, DC is quite different from AC.  The difference is that DC has much lower voltage than AC.  Hence, the regulations gov...
