Hot Picks of the Week July 14-18

This week analysts forecast a potential setback for Apple as manufacturing issues might delay the launch of the 5.5-inch iPhone 6 to 2015. GTAT’s stocks have also been hurt by low sapphire yield rates at its Arizona plant over the last two weeks, as analysts from large financial institutes including UBS, CLSA and Canaccord Genuity mark down the company's investment ratings. Analysts from CLSA and Conaccord Genuity have suggested the limited sapphire yield will signal limited usage in the new iPhone models. Smart lighting also makes headlines again this week with Taiwanese SME Gunitech ships smart LED light to Google headquarters, and Philips is in talks with Nest on smart LED lights. The industry is also seeing interesting developments with LED grow lights as Japanese farmer partners with GE to develop world’s largest LED indoor farm, and a Canadian researcher hopes to grow strawberries and tomatoes on Mars someday with the aid of LED lights.
