New Glasgow is to replace the current high-pressure sodium lights in street with LED lights in the coming weeks. In the spring the NDP government introduced legislation making LED lighting mandatory for roads and highways. Municipalities have five years to complete the conversion. India800 Foundation, an organisation which works for people living below poverty line ,has supported solar LED lamps for over 50 backward villages that do not have electricity. Westland's Annapolis Park subdivision is to replace LED street lightings under the $20,000 remaining in Energy Efficiency and Conservation Block Grant funds approved by the council .
