In regard to Veeco’s Taiwan Technology Center for the LED industry, Justin K. Wang, the VP/General Manager of Veeco Instrument Inc, and Dr. Ming Jiunn Jou, the President of Epistar Corporation, indicated that the future of LED makers comprises both risks and opportunities. Therefore, they hoped that the Taiwanese government can establish specific standards and criteria for LED lighting products, in the hope of raising awareness of LED products in consumers. Furthermore, if the government is willing to enact subsidy policies for the LED industry, the profits they bring will largely exceed the investment they require. That being said, the Taiwanese government should more actively support the energy-saving and green energy industries, otherwise the Taiwanese LED industry may be surpassed by South Korea in 2011 and decline to the third place in the total capacity of LED.
