According to the survey conducted by research divisions of TrendForce on information technology (IT) supply chain, the earthquake which struck northeast Japan on March 11th not only seriously influences information supply chain, but also becomes an obstacle to the economic resurgence in Japan. LEDinside: The Effects Caused by the Earthquake in Northeast Japan to LED Industry are Limited

LEDinside points out due to the fact that, unlike semiconductor manufacturing process, the manufacturing process in LED industry is mostly regarding chemical reactions and is shockproof, the effects caused by the earthquake are limited. The two leading LED manufacturers in Japan – Nichia and Toyoda Gosei are far from the disaster area in northeast Japan. According to LEDinside’s inquiry at these two manufacturers, not much damage has been done. SDK’s LED production line is located in Chiba, where whether the power blackouts and power cuts affect the production line is still waited to be confirmed.

Waverly Goes Green with LED Streetlights

Waverly Light and Power is replacing high-pressure sodium lights with LED bulbs as part of a citywide project, targeting to benefit the environment and economy. The effort is supported by an energy efficiency and conservation block grant from the Iowa Office of Energy Independence worth more than $270,000. With $540,000, officials will be able to replace nearly 950 of 1,500 city street and security lights. Reportedly, Nova Scotia based company LED Roadway Lighting , has won a $500,000 contract from the Canadian Innovation Commercialization Program to test GPS-equipped LED street lights switches.
