Edison Opto Provides Secondary Optical Design Services and Introduces a New Optical Complements Solutions

In the past decade, carbon reduction and environmental protection have become the emphasized issues in every country. LED is well-known for high efficacy and slim size; therefore, it has become an alternative replacement for traditional light source. Although LED features high efficiency and power saving, without appropriate optical complements, it may exist some shortcomings such as asymmetrical light pattern, light halo and it can’t be looked directly. Hence, secondary optical design is necessary to make the performance of LED similar to the traditional light sources. Secondary optical design is based on the principles of refraction and reflection so that the light which is emitted by LED can project on the desired lighting space. Moreover, secondary optical design can change the light angle and make lighting fixtures present the desired lighting effects.

A Taiwanese leading manufacturer in LED packaging industry, Edison Opto, is specialized in designing and producing high-power LEDs and solid state lighting applications. In product development, Edison Opto focuses on the optical design of lighting fixtures. Relying on the sophisticated R&D and design abilities, Edison Opto has introduced a series of optical complements for the Zhaga module (EdiLex SLM) and the high efficiency component-ET-3535. Those optical complements can help customers to exchange reflectors and lenses according to the application demands, and to achieve the desired optical effects.

Edison Opto’s EdiLex Spot Light Module was certified by the Zhaga consortium in 2012 and enabled the interchangeability of LED light sources. EdiLex SLM features light weight, easy assembly and specially designed holder which make it easy to interchange different optical designed reflectors. Moreover, from narrow beam to flood beam, Edison Opto has arranged a series of optical reflectors for the spot light module. With EdiLex spot light module, the complementary reflectors can be applied in AR111, PAR30/38, spot lights and track lights as commercial lighting and indoor lighting.

In addition, Edison Opto has launched the high light extraction efficiency product-ET-3535. Its slim and miniature size can reduce the size of optical components and minimize mechanical dimension. As a result, designers have excellent flexibility in optical design. Edison Opto not only provides the high efficacy component, but also collocates optical lenses (include single lens and multi lens array) of different beam angles to satisfy various applications. For example, the narrow angle (12°) lens and asymmetric beam angle (17° and 25°) lens can be applied in wall washer as architectural lighting. For track light and IR camera, Edison Opto provides 12°/25°/40° lenses which can be used with ET-3535 to achieve different optical effects.

Edison Opto is devoted to helping customers to solve the technical problems (thermo management, electrical scheme, mechanical refinement and optical optimization). The R&D team is specialized in developing high efficacy components and modules. Edison Opto’s optical R&D center can provide professional services of secondary optical design, making customers’ lighting fixtures present the desired lighting effects, and simultaneously expanding the application field of LED lighting.
