The CSYS task lights designed by Dyson are being sold at a retail price of 69,120 Japanese Yen (US $569) in clamp on or normal models. The price tag is slightly lower than the original GBP 399 (US$ 615.37) in UK. A limited red edition is also available on the Japanese market.

The CSYS task lights incorporates a special cooling system technology, which Dyson coins as heat pipe technology, that directs heat away from the LEDs, reported The Daily Mail. Traditional lighting designs exposes LEDs to a temperature of 130°C, which damages the phosphor coating and leads to declining performance and decreasing efficiency. To solve this problem, Dyson’s heat pipe technology keeps the LEDs operating at a cooler temperature of 55°C, and hence prolongs the light’s lifetime. Other special design features of the light includes lack of diffusers. The LEDs are concealed in conical cones and capable of spreading light evenly without the need for diffusers. “Using 3-Axis Glide motion, CSYS task lights adjust horizontally, vertically and rotationally with the touch of a fingertip,” wrote on company website.

The new lights also relies on gravity rather than springs and tensions to stay in position.

Previously an independent lighting company, Jake Dyson’s company was acquired by Dyson, the vacuum and fan company owned by his father Sir James Dyson in April 2015, reported CNET.
