Seoul Viosys Debuts UV WICOP for Wider UV LED Applications

The Korean UV LED solution provider, Seoul Viosys, has launched its new product UV WICOP which combines Seoul Semiconductor’s WICOP LEDs with compact and high efficiency technology.

Seoul Semiconductor’s patented WICOP is the world’s first product that does not require the packaging process as it is designed to use only a single chip and phosphor without any components such as lead frame and gold wire. By applying the technology to its UV LEDs, Seoul Viosys has been granted the patent for the combined technology.

Conventionally, the additional components have caused high manufacturing cost and degraded performance of UV LEDs. But as UV WICOP use only one ship without additional components, it has achieved low cost and become effective for heat dissipation. The design can be customized according to the applications or customer needs.

Seoul Viosys has tested its performance by applying UV WICOP technology to various applications for water and air purification, and surface disinfection. As a result, the new UV WICOP has improved performance by more than 600% with a lighting duration time of 45,000 hours, while the lighting duration of conventional high-powered LEDs is 2,000 to 7,000 hours.

Jong Man Kim, UV development Executive Vice President of Seoul Viosys, said,“Conventional UV LEDs have difficulty in expanding applications with low light power, short duration time and high price. The new UV WICOP of Seoul Viosys is expected to be a leading product that meets the needs of customers and contributes to market expansion for UV LED. Seoul Viosys had the patent for vertical high-powered package (Patent no. USP 8,242,484) based on UV WICOP technology.”

The mass production for new UV WICOP with cost competitiveness will be initiated soon according to Seoul Viosys.

UV LED has been widely applied in various fields including curing, medical uses and sterilization. According to the latest report from LEDinside, the market value of UV LED will reach US$ 1.224 billion in 2022. Please contact us for further report details.
