At this year’s Lightfair in Philadelphia (USA), Osram Opto Semiconductors is showcasing an LED prototype to promote healthy plant growth: the Oslon Square Hyper Red. This third-generation 2 watt LED features improved emission characteristics, higher optical output and impressive corrosion resistance, so plant lighting systems based on the Oslon Square Hyper Red can be made particularly economical. 

LEDtronics announces its latest series of DLC, ETL-listed LED Canopy Lights with a choice of flat or prismatic drop lens for both indoor and outdoor applications. With energy savings of up to 75 percent, the wide-beam lamps come in two wattages: 49W for replacing up to 250W old-technology HID, or 89W for replacing up to 400W HID.

Cree, Inc. records another significant LED milestone with the demonstration of 303 lumens per watt from a white, high-power LED. Reaching the landmark achievement much faster than previously believed possible, this result surpasses Cree’s previous R&D industry-best of 276 lumens per watt announced just over a year ago.

e:cue lighting control – An OSRAM Company, introduces DMX2CC dimmers for smooth and flicker- free dimming of high power LEDs. Using continuous current dimming method, DMX2CC dimmers enable control of 1W and 3W LEDs via a DMX control unit. Available in six-channel and twelve-channel versions, these devices feature a self-diagnostic test function preventing damage to the unit and LEDs caused by incorrect wiring, open or short circuit, and overheating. This level of preservation is unmatched by competative offerings.

Recently, Taiwan LED maker Everlight Electronics Co., Ltd. claimed that it won orders for backlight unit (BLU)-use LEDs from a big international notebook PC brand. The company expects its revenue climb by 20% to 30% this year. Everlight confirmed that its LEDs for monitor and LCD TV BLUs are undergoing certification, so its shipments of LEDs for large-sized LED panels would enjoy clear growth.

It’s reported that Future Lighting Solutions has provided key technical design assistance for new energy-saving LED light fixtures unveiled last month on the Hong Kong MTR (Mass Transit Railway). The new fixtures, each comprised of 32 high-powered LEDs, are designed to reduce energy consumption on the city’s trains, extend bulb life to lower replacement costs, and provide more natural lighting than conventional fluorescent tubing for commuter comfort.
