Rakuten Baseball Installs Stunning 20 x 16 m Mitsubishi Electric's Diamond Vision Screen at Kleenex Stadium Miyagi

Rakuten Baseball Incorporated announced today it has completed installation of a Mitsubishi Electric Corporation Diamond Vision large-scale display system at Kleenex Stadium Miyagi above the stands between right and center fields. The Diamond Vision screen, which measures 20.6 meters by 16.3 meters with a total surface area of 336.8 square meters, is the largest outdoor screen among baseball stadiums in Japan.

Toshiba ends production of incandescent lamps

Toshiba Corporation and Toshiba Lighting and Technology Corporation, a Toshiba group company, today marked the end of production of general-use incandescent bulbs, a product which Toshiba was first to manufacture in Japan and that it has produced for 120 years. Toshiba decided to focus on environmentally friendly lighting in 2008, and since then has been advancing a transition to new lighting products, particularly LED lighting.

JSR launches materials series for high-brightness LEDs

JSR Corporation (President: Mitsunobu Koshiba) has announced plans to launch a new series of performance materials by the name of "LUMILON"(TM), materials for high-luminance LEDs. There are growing market needs for high-luminance LEDs, which are extensively being used in a variety of applications such as for in-car use, various lighting fixtures and displays, as components to reduce environmental impact. BenQ to release the V2210 and V2410 LED backlit monitors in Japan

Recently, BenQ has announced a couple of 16:9 LCD monitors that feature LED backlighting, the 21.5-inch V2210 and the 24-inch V2410 in Japan. Both new displays have a native resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels, a 5ms response time, a 1000:1 contrast ratio, 250 cd/m2 brightness, the Senseye image enhancement technology, plus DVI and HDMI outputs. BenQ has not yet reveal any prices but said that the V2210 will hit (Japanese) stores on December 25th, and the V2410 will follow on the 30th.

Japan's New Regulation for LED Lighting Is Scheduled to Be Released in 2Q10

At the Lighting Japan Special Seminar taking place on December 2 in Taipei, Mr. Sumio Shimode, Chairman of Planning & General Committee of Japan LED Association, pointed out that Japan’s CO2 emission was aimed to be reduced by 20% in the first phase (2008-2012) according to the Kyoto Protocol. However, the emission slightly rose by about 1.9% in 2008. As a result, saving energy and reducing carbon emission has been one of the policies most aggressively promoted by the government.

Nichia Files a Patent Infringement Lawsuit against Companies in China, Hong Kong and Canada

Nichia Corporation recently announced that it filed a lawsuit against Shenzhen Jiawei Industries Co. Ltd., a Chinese corporation, Jiawei Technology (HK) Ltd., a Hong Kong corporation, and Jiawei North America Inc., a Canadian corporation, in the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Texas, alleging the defendants infringe patents held by Nichia. In the lawsuit Nichia seeks an injunction and damages against the alleged infringement.
