MEW Provided EMC Lead Frame Semi-automated Equipment to Meet LED Cost Performance Requirement

MEW is an injection and molding equipment manufacturer in South Korea, having accessed to the market for over 25 years. From the market demands for BMC and mobile phone application such as Crystal EMC (Sensor Wiring Bonding) and Black EMC (fingerprint recognition for mobile phones), to LED industry's increasingly stringent demands for high-power LEDs (in order to meet LED terminal market cost performance), all of which drove EMC products market demand. LEDinside is honored to interview MEW CEO.


For EMC equipment design, MEW observed current market trends and also have its own advantages to drive equipment development. Firstly, for the automated equipments introduced by other counterparts, once the product specification changed, the cost will increase, therefore MEW launched semi-automated equipments. Secondly, in terms of production capacity, MEW developed high tonnage of equipment to produce 2 pieces per one chase, and at most 4 to 6 chases (8 to 12 pieces). Thirdly, MEW designed seven-point stamper (7 RAM), which can create more uniform pressure and flatness control to form a better shaped molding. Hybrid model products can save two-thirds of the energy. Fourthly, along with increasingly stringent product specifications, lead frame manufacturers and packaging manufacturers can use this equipment to smoothly produce liquid or plastic SMC, which has been jointly developed with other manufacturers in South Korean.

Equipment Interface Description
a. The screen uses touch interface and can reserve five to ten sets of parameters. It can perfectly convert package specifications.
b. Temperature Monitoring: General equipments only have one to sixteen sets of temperature monitoring, while MEW's equipments have one to  
    thirty two sets.
c. For interface control, it not only can adjust parameters (temperature, pressure) but also can reserve production records.


Currently, MEW's equipments are mainly provided to customers in South Korea, such as Partron, LG, Dongkuk, Woree, Heesung, Jungjin Nextech Co., Ltd. etc. for producing 3535, 3030, 3735, 5050, 7070.

MEW is optimistic about Chinese market development in 2014, trying to entrust Taiwan-based Perfect Processing Machinery with overseas agency, sales and services.

Overall, EMC market rose in 2013 and will gradually grow in 2014. It is expected that SMC will replace EMC products in the second half of 2015, although only in the trail stage, SMC not only provide higher wattage applications but also can be used in the solar cell backplane. Therefore, in addition to EMC market, MEW is also optimistic about the SMC market development. MEW also plans to increase research institutes and expand production in 2015, to quickly adapt to changes in the LED market. Looking forward to LED market development, MEW's new machine has a built-in vacuum device, allowing the molding directly into a vacuum, and especially designed for SMC to significantly enhance clamping effect.
